Joseph Berke (1939-2021) was the founder and former director of the Arbours Crisis Centre and a writer and lecturer.

His areas of interest included psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, psychosis, therapeutic communities, transpersonal psychology and treating the 'untreatable'. Other areas of interest included Judaism, and the Jewish mystical tradition: Kabbalah and Chassidism.

12-04-2023 Joseph Berke's family are delighted to announce that Joe's archive as well as key artwork created by Mary Barnes have been acquired by the Wellcome Collection Library. This is testament to their important place in mental health care history. The archival items and artwork will be preserved and made available for research and scholarly purposes.
